My Mother Told Me
AUD $23.00
My Mother Told Me was from the beginning of a poem from Egil’s Saga, most likely written by Snorre Sturlasson in 1220-30 – Who is said to have been a descendent of Egil. Egil was a real person and said to be one of Iceland’s most influential Skalds (poets) of the time, but also kind of an anti hero – Which is not that strange as he was said to be kin with a werewolf. The stories about him were written 300 years later, so besides him having been alive, we can’t be sure about Snorres statements about his ancestor.
The poem tells a story about Egil and his mother when he was young. She sensed he would become a great viking, and wished for him to someday buy a great ship so that he could travel and slay/plunder far and wide. The poem has since been made into music for the series Vikings and has quickly become a bit of a classic. With our love for Norse mythology we simply had to include it!
