I could travel no further and collapsed to the forest floor clutching my wound as I stared up into the canopy. Auburn leaves floated down to rest upon my chest, sticking to the red stain where the blade had run me through. Rays of the afternoon sun pierced through the trees and my eyes betrayed themselves as a figure appeared from beneath a tree bough.

The slim creature was a sight to behold, covered head to foot in brilliant shades of amber and green infusing their skin, hair and eyes, a glowing amber looking down at me in sympathy. An autumn forest had come to life, kneeling beside me with a gentle smile. I noticed they were elven kind although unlike any elf I had encountered before. With palm upon my chest, they closed their eyes and spoke in a melodious plea to a deity unknown. The sunlight grew in intensity, and my wounds were healed.

“Rest now human,” he spoke in a deep timber voice, “You are safe from harm here.”
I feel deep into sleep, safe in their hands.
